What the answers reveal
The ten pairs mix obvious differences with close comparisons. Greenland and India test whether the familiar Mercator picture has shaped your estimate: India has more area in this dataset, even though Greenland can look larger near the top of a Mercator map. Germany and Japan ask a different question because their measured areas are much closer. A small visual difference is a poor substitute for checking the figures.
For Mexico and Indonesia, the result also depends on what is counted. Indonesia is spread across many islands, and a world-scale boundary file cannot show every coastline detail. The quiz uses one source and one calculation for both places, so its answer is consistent within the site. An official land-area table may use another definition and source. If a pair surprises you, open its map scene, switch between Mercator and Equal Earth, and compare the numerical areas before deciding what the drawing means.
A higher score shows that your estimates fit these ten pairs; it does not mean a flat map has become an area measuring tool. For figures you cite elsewhere, read how the areas are calculated and check the source’s boundary and water definitions.
